A Junior High Proposal : Happy Anniversary, Babe! - Sara May Photography

How many other women can say their husband proposed to them at the age of 14? Not many, I’m sure (in this century at least.) 😀

My husband and I met when we were in junior high. We had some of the same friends but weren’t close ourselves. He was this quiet(-seeming), mustache-toting musician that roamed the hallways strumming his guitar (and wearing Birkenstocks, thank you 90’s). To me, that was Jaime. And that was all I really knew about him. Oh, and that he carried his guitar everywhere.

One day, as I stood by the drinking fountain, Jaime headed in my direction (guitar in hand of course) from the other end of the hallway. When he neared, he slid across the linoleum floor on his knees and came screeching to a halt at my feet. He played a ditty and then asked, “Will you marry me?”

For the life of me, I can’t remember what my reply was but I’m sure it was witty.  And this playful joke went on for a while. Some days I would say ‘yes’ and other days I’d say ‘no.’  It was our funny way of saying hello and it was the beginning of a friendship. A friendship that years and years later turned into something more.

Happy Anniversary, Babe! It’s been 8 years and seems to only get better with age. Thanks for being my hubs, my music man, my web guy ;), my fellow jokester, my best friend and my Love.

I’m glad something told you to slide across the linoleum floor on your knees that day.
